Cooking in Season: June 18 – 22
Campers will use farm fresh ingredients inspired by the Davidson Farmers Market to prepare and cook delicious dishes; spend a day on The Farm at Davidson College – harvesting tomatoes, potatoes and more; learn how to use basic kitchen tools and equipment; research recipes and create menus; learn how to preserve in-season goods; and prepare a local feast to share with family and friends on the last day of camp.
The July Bake Shop: July 9 – 13
Campers will learn how to make homemade goodies from donuts and pop tarts to scones and cakes. They will research, develop and test new recipes; learn how to use kitchen tools and equipment; work together as a team to plan and prepare for the final day of camp when they will open a pop-up bakery at the Outpost. This will involve creating a menu, baking, setting prices, deciding on a business name, and making signage and more. Friends, family and community folks will be invited to the pop-up bakery on the last day of camp.
Café + Juice Bar: July 23 – 27
Campers will learn how to run their own café – from making pizza dough, cooking pizzas and baking pastries to making freshly squeezed juices, blending smoothies and churning homemade ice cream. They will work together to run their own café by utilizing appropriate equipment and cooking tools, washing and cleaning their spaces and planning for the next day’s tasks. Campers will collectively develop a café menu in preparation for the final day of camp when friends and family will be invited to dine with us. Campers have a great time making the Outpost their own little restaurant for the week.
Summit Chopped: July 30 – August 3
Drumroll please…the camp the kids have all been waiting for is finally here – Summit Chopped! Campers will spend Monday through Wednesday learning and practicing how to make dishes using mystery items from farm fresh ingredients and pantry staples to wacky, unthinkable and fun items. On Thursday we will host a practice round so the campers can shake out their nerves in preparation for the big event. On the final day of camp, family and friends will be invited to come watch the ultimate showdown of Summit Chopped, including mystery celebrity judges, on our very own Outpost stage.
The August Bake Shop: August 6 – 10
Campers will learn how to make homemade goodies from donuts and pop tarts to cookies and cakes.
