Young Chefs Summer Camp 2019
Calling all young chefs! We have 5 (!) Summit cooking camps this summer and we are so excited to have you join us. Depending on which camps you attend, we’ll be working with farm fresh veggies and fruits, wacky ingredients and mystery items, far out spices and seasonings, sweets, treats and special eats! All of our summer camps promise to be an environment of collaboration, friend making, respect, experimentation, creation, celebration and fun! Let’s go!
Time: 9 AM – 12 PM Monday through Friday
Age: 6 – 13 years old
Location: Summit Outpost on Davidson College Campus, 120 Patterson Court

Summit Chopped: June 17-21
Campers will spend the week experimenting and making all sorts of dishes including appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. Each day they will be given a mystery basket of ingredients and work in groups to create signature dishes to present to their fellow campers. Kids will prep and cook using farm fresh fruits and veggies, pantry staples, proteins, and wacky, unthinkable items that will get their creative juices flowing. Be prepared – they may want to try this at home too. On the final day of camp, families and friends will be invited to come watch the Summit Chopped Showdown as campers battle right before the audience eyes. Local celebrity judges will pick the winners. Your little chefs won’t want to miss this awesome week of camp!
Bake Shop: June 24-28 *SOLD OUT*
Campers will make homemade goodies from granola bars and donuts, to cakes, breads, crackers and other tasty treats. They will get to know the kitchen and restaurant space all week as they work together to prepare for the final day of camp – which is the most fun! The kids will host a pop-up bake shop on Friday morning at Summit Outpost where families, friends and community folks are all invited to have complimentary coffee and purchase the campers baked goods (for a minimal cost). Campers will create a menu, make and bake, set pricing, decide on a business name, make signage, and more. Your aspiring chefs will feel like Summit is their own little Bake Shop.
Cooking Around the World: July 8-12
Campers will learn, make and experience what people around the world are eating – from Mexico, Spain and Italy, to India and Thailand. They will work with a variety of fruits, veggies, proteins, grains, flours, herbs, and seasonings, as they expand their palettes beyond belief. Kids will collaborate in groups and all together to plan, prep, and cook all week, as they gear up for the final day of camp – which is the best! On Friday, families and friends will be invited to attend our International food buffet, where campers will proudly show off their display of foods and be available to answer questions about their worldly creations.
Summit Café: July 22-26 *SOLD OUT*
Welcome to the Summit Café. During this week campers will make all sorts of café-style foods, like crepes, empanadas and galettes to salads, sandwiches and sweets. These young chefs will work together experimenting and creating different dishes every day as they prepare for the final day of camp. They will build a menu, make and bake, set pricing, decide on a business name, make signage, divide responsibilities, and more. Campers will feel like Summit is their very own as they open the doors for a pop-up café on Friday. The kids will welcome you, seat you, serve you, cook for you, and take care of you – just like it’s their own little restaurant.
Ultimate Chopped: Aug. 5-9
If your kid is a seasoned camper or experienced home chef – this is the camp for them! Just like our other camps your chefs will spend the week experimenting and making all sorts of dishes including appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. Each day they will be given a challenging mystery basket of ingredients and work in groups to create signature dishes to present to the camp instructors. Campers will prep and cook using farm fresh fruits and veggies, pantry staples, proteins, and wacky, unthinkable items that will get their creative juices flowing. Here’s the bonus! We will have guest chefs join us throughout the week to provide tips and tricks of the trade to help your aspiring chefs take their cooking game to the next level. On the final day of camp, families and friends will be invited to come watch the competition – Summit Ultimate Chopped – as campers battle right before the audience eyes. Local celebrity judges will be asking questions and challenging the young chefs as they present their dishes. A winning team will be crowned!
