For the first time in our roasting history, Summit is introducing a naturally processed coffee from Burundi. Sourced in partnership with Keffa Coffee, this fresh harvest comes from the Gahahe cooperative. Gahahe was built in 1989 in the Kayanza commune and province. The name ‘Gahahe’ comes from the igihahe trees that were once found in this region. Due to the number of these trees in this region, the Kirundi phrase kubavomere batumisha was used to describe the land which means ‘always covered in green’

This washing station collects cherries from over 1,250 local coffee farmers spread over 16 neighborhoods. It’s a remarkably clean coffee for one that’s been processed naturally — that is, dried with the cherry still surrounding the seeds. In the cup, we find red wine, grape, chocolate & sweet orange.

Province: Kayanza, Burundi

Altitude: 1,805 M

Roast: light to medium

Tasting notes: red wine, grape, chocolate & sweet orange
